Because of this collaboration, the Grand Forks location successfully opened and is ready to serve the community.

Building a Space That Reflects the Brand

Historic Building Restaurant Renovation: Dave’s Hot Chicken Opens in Minneapolis’ North Loop

As a specialist in historic building restaurant renovation, Strack Construction is proud to celebrate the opening of a new Dave’s Hot Chicken location in Minneapolis’ vibrant North Loop neighborhood. Located on the second floor of the historic Duffey Lofts building, this project presented a unique opportunity to transform an existing space while preserving the character and integrity of a landmark property.

The completed restaurant brings one of the nation’s fastest-growing brands to one of Minneapolis’ most popular destinations, creating an exciting new dining experience for residents, workers, and visitors alike.

Building Within a Historic Landmark

Historic buildings often present unique challenges that require careful planning and execution. Unlike traditional restaurant projects, construction within a historic structure must balance modern functionality with preservation requirements.

For the Duffey Lofts project, Strack Construction navigated historic preservation reviews, structural considerations, and building-specific constraints throughout the process. Because the restaurant is located on the second floor, logistics and material movement required additional coordination and planning.

Despite these challenges, the team successfully delivered a finished space that supports the operational needs of Dave’s Hot Chicken while respecting the building’s historic character.

Overcoming Complex Construction Challenges

Every historic renovation project comes with surprises. Existing conditions, infrastructure limitations, and structural requirements often require creative problem-solving.

This project included several significant engineering challenges that required close collaboration between construction professionals, engineers, and project stakeholders. Additionally, the confined nature of the space demanded careful sequencing and coordination among trade partners.

As a result, every phase of construction required flexibility and attention to detail.

Projects like this demonstrate the value of experience when adapting existing buildings for modern commercial use.

Bringing New Energy to the North Loop

The North Loop continues to attract new restaurants, retailers, and businesses while maintaining its distinctive historic character. Adaptive reuse projects play an important role in supporting that growth.

By transforming space within Duffey Lofts, this project contributes to the neighborhood’s ongoing evolution while preserving a piece of Minneapolis history.

The completed restaurant combines the energy of a growing national brand with the unique atmosphere that makes the North Loop one of the city’s most sought-after destinations.

The Value of Adaptive Reuse Construction

Repurposing existing buildings often provides opportunities that new construction cannot. Historic structures bring character, visibility, and a sense of place that resonate with customers and communities.

As an experienced partner in historic building restaurant renovation, Strack Construction understands how to navigate the complexities of these projects while delivering modern, functional spaces.

Key considerations often include:

  • Historic preservation requirements
  • Structural evaluations
  • Building system upgrades
  • Tenant-specific design requirements
  • Construction logistics in occupied urban environments

Successfully managing these factors helps ensure projects stay on track and meet client expectations.

Celebrating Another Successful Opening

The opening of Dave’s Hot Chicken in the North Loop represents a successful collaboration between ownership, project partners, and the Strack Construction team.

We are proud to help bring this exciting concept to Minneapolis and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to another unique project within one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
